Navigating the Challenges of a Busy and Uncomfortable Practice

When the Practice Feels Busy, Dull, or Uncomfortable

For many people, the first couple of weeks of a daily Laya Yoga practice bring mixed experiences.

The body may feel restless. The mind may feel noisy. Some days may feel heavy or dull.

This is not a sign that something is going wrong.

When external stimulation reduces, internal activity often becomes more noticeable. The practice is not creating restlessness or distraction — it is revealing what was already present beneath the surface.

Laya Yoga does not ask you to fix this or work through it.It asks you to allow it.

Trying to improve the meditation, quiet the mind, or feel more settled often adds another layer of effort. That effort is usually what keeps the system agitated.

If you find yourself evaluating the practice — wondering whether you are doing it correctly or whether it is “working” — notice that impulse gently and return to the simplicity of sitting and allowing.

Sleepiness, boredom, and impatience are common at this stage. They are not obstacles to be overcome. They are part of the nervous system adjusting to stillness.

Nothing needs to be forced.Nothing needs to be resolved.

Show up. Sit. Allow. That is enough.

Return to the practice.Let the rest take care of itself.
